A Clear Direction
The Five Pillars
While researching and filtering information surrounding improving health-span, five pillars recurred with solid backing from well designed studies showing how these can positively impact our lives. Below is what we’ll dig into during the course to put some clarity to these pillars.
Sleep
How much emphasis do you place on getting enough sleep?
What benefits does sleep provide?
Is sleep really that important?
These are just some of the questions we dive into to uncover why Sleep is listed as the first pillar.
When we establish habits that improve sleep, every other part of our health improves. Find simple, but effective habits giving you practical tips to improve your sleep starting tonight.
Movement
Intentional movement has been shown to have the greatest impact on our health-span. You’ll find types of movement that are needed to ensure we look after our respiratory system, our muscle maintenance and skeletal health.
So many of our other biological systems rely on our ability to move throughout life to function correctly.
Ask yourself what things you physically want to be able to do for your entire life and discover strategies that lead to achieving that freedom.
Food
Food and nutrition are topics of much debate, has created splinter groups and extremes in eating habits. Science is generating new knowledge, but this should be considered and used holistically.
We all essentially know what good food is when we strip away the noise. Now is time to bring back the enjoyment of whole-foods and how we prepare, share, and consume our meals in ways that generations past have proven to work best for our health.
On this site, we’ll share simple tips to bring back things our fast-paced lives have eroded from our daily habits. You may be surprised at how easily you can introduce many changes to the way you eat, that not only improves your physical health, but also your mood and mental health.
Breath
We all know how to breathe right? But how many of us use controlled breathing to our advantage?
Have you ever been in a stressful situation? Through breath, you’ll learn how to instantly lower your stress response in less than five seconds.
Find out how stress impacts our well-being and tools you can incorporate into your day to help use stress to your advantage. Stress can be a good thing (after all, that’s how we grow mentally and physically) but chronic stress can be deadly. You may be amazed at how quickly positive changes take place in our bodies when simple habits are incorporated into our daily lives.
Community
So much of our lives (should) involve interacting with people in our environment. Why is this important? Communities around the world with the highest number of centenarians (those that live to 100 years and beyond), have the strongest communities surrounding them.
Find out what effect being part of a community has on our health, how to build or become involved in your community and how to observe your behaviour as a community member.
